In June 2016, EMFASIS celebrated its 3 year anniversary of its solidarity towards our community members who live in a “street situation” or under the poverty line. It is estimated that more than 140 volunteers have participated in our activities, 76,100 volunteer hours have been completed, all whilst these numbers are still increasing daily. At the same time, the total number of beneficiaries who have been relieved thanks to the Emfasis’ efforts and programmes is around 3,500.
As part of its third anniversary, on June 23 EMFASIS carried out an expanded Action in Support of those affected by the humanitarian crisis. The response of the supporters exceeded all expectations, demonstrating the awareness of the community and revealing the dramatic effects of the humanitarian and refugee crisis in Greece.
With a meeting point in the center of Athens, more than 40 participants, volunteers and citizens, divided into groups, collaborated with the 2 Mobile Support Units of Emfasis and the Street Workers, in order to reach as many beneficiaries as possible.
Particularly moving was the presence and assistance offered by several supporters during the many days of preparation for this Initiative.
Starting from Kotzia Square and continuing to vulnerable neighborhoods of Athens and the port of Piraeus, participants offered food items, including salads, desserts and iced drinks, as well as basic survival items and clothing. By the end, more than 450 portions of food were offered to the homeless, refugees and needy families.
