On April 9, 2014 the team of Social Street Work attended a three-hour first aid training course, which was conducted by the accredited ECSI and ERC President of RSF Hellas, Andreas Samaltanos.
The seminar was held at the Emfasis Foundation offices and included a specialized first aid program adapted to the needs of Social Street Workers, taking into consideration the challenges and dangers they are facing whilst on duty.
The training was conducted using specific models and educational defibrillators. It also included topics such as how to protect Social Street Workers from infectious diseases, evaluation of an incident, use of protective, primary assessment, CPR, choking status of a victim, severe epilepsy crisis management and injury assessment.
However, it is necessary to emphasize that despite the knowledge provided during this seminar, street workers can only offer first aid assistance until specialized help is delivered by the National Center for Emergency Care (Ambulance), which needs to be called in case of any incident requiring immediate medical intervention.
