The socio – economic crisis in Greece is still part of everyday life. As a result the hardships for many of our fellow citizens, led to the deprivation of their basic rights such as the right to medical treatment and to health services. Without doubt the ones that are more exposed and helpless to numerous risks for their health are the homeless and the poor.
Emfasis Foundation understanding the needs of socially vulnerable people through its daily work and activities in Athens, is constantly seeking ways to address those needs immediately and effectively. As a result, the organisation provides a wide range of free medical tests for people who live on the street or have low income with no health insurance. Our purpose is to support them by improving their living conditions through the provision of free health cards.
The packages of medical tests are tailored to meet the basic needs of men, women and children and include general, gynecological, urological, and pediatric examinations, as well as their evaluation by a health practitioner.
Emfasis’ team is present every Wednesday between 18:30-21:00, at SYNATHINA, where its qualified scientists (psychologists, sociologists and social workers) handle requests for health cards and provide counseling, legal and job search advice.
This unique project is the result of a huge voluntary effort by the amateur “Thespis Greek Theatre Group” in Dubai, which performed “Dads with Chantilly”, in June 2014, and offered the proceeds for the support of Emfasis Foundation.
Since the beginning of the project, dozens of people have benefited and we continue to support a significant number of applicants.
